Real Madrid Demands Tebas Step Down Over Controversial Comments
Real Madrid is making headlines for a fiery demand: they want La Liga president Javier Tebas to resign immediately. The call comes after Tebas controversially compared the club's management and its media practices to the propaganda tactics used by Joseph Goebbels, the infamous Nazi official. Tebas stated that the way Real Madrid communicates and operates its TV channel evokes the propaganda strategies associated with Goebbels. This statement did not sit well with the club, which branded it as "deeply offensive" and "morally repugnant." In their official response, Real Madrid insisted that it's utterly unacceptable for someone in Tebas’s influential positions to make such inflammatory comparisons. They demanded he resign not only from his role as La Liga president but also from his position as vice-president of the Spanish Football Association (RFEF). The club expressed its outrage, declaring, "It is extraordinarily serious that someone holding two positions of utmost responsibility resorts to a comparison with Nazi propaganda to discredit our club and its management." In a lengthy post on social media, Tebas elaborated on his remarks, suggesting that Real Madrid's management operates like an "orchestra of mouthpieces" with their TV channel leading the tune. He accused the club of selectively choosing narratives to perpetuate grievances and create an adversarial image. While he insisted he wasn't equating his comments with an ideology, merely the propaganda techniques, Real Madrid was quick to dismiss this clarification. They argued that it doesn't lessen the unworthy nature of his statements. The club pointed out that this incident is just the latest in a string of attacks by Tebas against them, including a previous criticism regarding claims of a refereeing conspiracy targeting Real Madrid. Tebas has also clashed with the club over their ambitions to join a European Super League back in 2021, and in 2025, he remarked that Real had "lost their head" after they lodged a formal complaint concerning officiating decisions. As tensions rise, one has to wonder how this feud will evolve and what it means for the future of both Real Madrid and La Liga.
