Zigiotti Olme's Early Strike Secures Manchester United's Win Over Liverpool
In just the sixth minute, Julia Zigiotti Olme struck gold with a clever lob, leading Manchester United to a 1-0 victory over Liverpool. This win marks the second for coach Eva Olid in the Women’s Super League this season. Zigiotti Olme took full advantage of a blunder from Liverpool’s goalkeeper, Khiara Keating. Despite some late pressure from Liverpool, United held firm to secure back-to-back league wins. After a rocky start under Olid, the Spanish manager has now orchestrated four wins in a row across all competitions, with United remaining unbeaten in their last five outings. This match was particularly special, as it was the 250th for United since their reformation in 2018. The team celebrated the milestone with an early goal courtesy of Zigiotti Olme, who intercepted a wayward pass from Keating and expertly chipped it into the net. Liverpool fought hard for an equaliser, forcing United's goalkeeper Phallon Tullis-Joyce into action midway through the first half. Tullis-Joyce made a brilliant double save, first denying Cornelia Kapocs' low shot and then quickly recovering to thwart Beata Olsson's follow-up effort. Before the break, United's Jess Park came agonisingly close, rattling the crossbar with a powerful strike from distance. Keating was then forced to make a near-post save from Andrea Medina's rebound attempt. As the match wore on, Liverpool's best chance to level came 20 minutes from time when Jenna Clark found space at a corner but could not direct her header on target. With this victory, United now sits level with Liverpool in the WSL standings, trailing the European spots by just three points.
