Wales Looks to Build on Momentum Against Denmark in Nations League Showdown

Ben Davies has played the full 90 minutes in all three matches for Wales during this international window.
As they gear up to face Denmark in Cardiff on Sunday, captain Ben Davies emphasizes the team’s ambition to demonstrate their competitiveness in Nations League A. Fresh from a much-needed victory against Norway, Wales is riding high after snapping a six-match winless streak.
That historic win marked Wales' first triumph in the top tier of the Nations League, and Craig Bellamy’s squad is eager for more success. "We don’t want to find ourselves in a position where we feel outclassed by bigger teams," said Davies.
He added, "The performance against Norway laid a solid foundation, proving that we can compete at this level. It was a much-improved display overall. We’ve returned to the roots of what brought us success and earned our place in Nations League A. Hopefully, we can carry that form into the game against Denmark."

The team turned their fortunes around against Norway, overcoming an early setback to secure a 2-1 victory that alleviated the pressure following a stretch without a win dating back to last November's match against North Macedonia.
Following a disappointing loss to Bosnia-Herzegovina in the World Cup play-off semi-final, Wales had drawn with Northern Ireland and Ghana and faced consecutive defeats against Romania, Portugal, and Denmark. With the weight of those results hanging over them, they needed a statement performance against Norway, and they delivered just that.
The win against Norway has sparked a dramatic shift in their Nations League group dynamics. Wales benefitted from Norway defender Torbjorn Heggem’s red card early in the second half, but they had already put the quarter-finalists under pressure prior to that incident.
"Every team at this level is formidable," noted Davies, who boasts 103 caps. "Each match will present challenges, but we’re here to compete and showcase our best selves. The victory the other night was a massive boost for our confidence as we look ahead."
Bellamy acknowledged that the group has transformed following their win against Norway and highlighted the importance of beating Denmark for Wales' Euro 2028 aspirations.
However, Wales will face Denmark without key players like Karl Darlow, Joe Rodon, Dylan Lawlor, David Brooks, and Harry Wilson due to injuries. Bellamy will have to make adjustments to the lineup that faced Norway as they seek redemption for last Sunday’s loss in Denmark.
Despite the setback in their Nations League opener against Portugal, Wales showed resilience but suffered a heavy defeat in Copenhagen. Davies believes the home advantage of Cardiff City Stadium will be crucial.
"Playing away can be tough. In Denmark, we struggled to gain control, but at home against Norway, we had the support of our fans and the right atmosphere," he reflected. "It really felt like a different game, and we need to make our home advantage count."
Could this long-awaited victory signal a turning point for Bellamy's side?
