Neto Shines as Chelsea Tops Everton in Premier League Clash
Pedro Neto was the star of the show as Chelsea triumphed 2-0 over Everton, handing the Toffees their first defeat of the Premier League season at Hill Dickinson Stadium. The match turned in Chelsea's favor with Neto striking twice in the second half, starting just 43 seconds after the break and sealing the win with another goal in the dying moments. This victory also marked Chelsea's first clean sheet in the league in nine months, a much-needed boost for the team. However, the win came with a cloud as Chelsea goalkeeper Emi Martinez was stretchered off after a worrying head injury. He received nearly nine minutes of medical attention after colliding with Everton's Jarrad Branthwaite in the penalty area, leaving fans anxious about his condition. Adding to the drama, Chelsea's Morgan Rogers managed to escape a sending-off in the first half after a dangerous tackle on Everton's James Garner. Former Premier League referee Mike Dean commented on the incident, stating, "I think it's a minimum yellow, but I called red straight away. He catches him with his studs just on the inside of Garner's knee, and I think it's a straight red, I really do. It's not a good tackle." Referee Paul Tierney had already issued five yellow cards by halftime in a match that was anything but dull, marking the first time such a statistic had been recorded since February. Despite Everton's struggles, they did create a few chances, with Thierno Barry wasting a golden opportunity by heading straight at Martinez. The Chelsea keeper later made a superb save to deny Jack Grealish’s volley, showcasing his skills before his unfortunate exit. Before halftime, Chelsea almost took the lead when Moises Caicedo, stepping in as captain for the injured Reece James, hit the crossbar with a volley from a corner. Maxence Lacroix also had a header cleared off the line in stoppage time, emphasizing Chelsea's attacking pressure. This win, Chelsea's first at Everton since August 2022, elevates them to 13 points from their opening seven games, pushing them into the Champions League spots and ahead of their rivals in the league table.
