Morgan Gibbs-White Hit with £1,000 Fine for Running Red Light
Morgan Gibbs-White, the attacking midfielder for Nottingham Forest, has landed himself in hot water after his Range Rover was caught running a red light. The incident took place in West Bridgford, Nottinghamshire, where his vehicle passed through the signal just 1.1 seconds after it turned red. The 26-year-old, who recently earned his first England cap in 2024, neglected to respond to two letters from the police seeking confirmation of whether he was driving at the time of the violation. As a result, he faced a court ruling last Tuesday for failing to disclose the driver's identity during the incident. Nottinghamshire Police initiated an investigation after catching Gibbs-White's car on camera, but they encountered an issue—the number plate on the vehicle differed by one letter from the official registration with the DVLA. In April, officers from Staffordshire Police stopped the Range Rover and confirmed it was indeed registered to Gibbs-White. At Southern Derbyshire Magistrates' Court, he was fined £660, received six penalty points on his driving record, and ordered to pay an additional £120 in costs along with a £264 victim surcharge. Notably, a court representative remarked that Gibbs-White did not enter a plea or provide any mitigation, leading to a closed-door sentencing under the fast-track Single Justice Procedure. The court documents reveal that the traffic camera caught Gibbs-White's car violating the red light at 15:17 GMT on January 28, with the police noting, "the time into the red light was recorded as 1.1 seconds." This isn’t Gibbs-White’s first run-in with the law; he was banned from driving for six months in May of the previous year after being caught speeding six times within three months. At that time, he was hit with nearly £4,000 in fines for various traffic offenses, including two speeding tickets received on the same day. Gibbs-White, who joined Nottingham Forest from Wolverhampton Wanderers in 2022, has made 10 appearances for the England national team and was recently called up to Thomas Tuchel's squad for the Nations League.
