Massive Clampdown: 147 Officials Banned for Betting Violations in Turkish Football
In a significant move, the Turkish Football Federation (TFF) has suspended 147 football club officials, including Trabzonspor's president Ertugrul Dogan, for 45 days due to violations of betting regulations. This action is part of a broader initiative to uphold the integrity of Turkish football. Back in September, it was reported that 448 individuals were provisionally suspended and referred to the TFF's disciplinary board amid allegations of betting while in their official roles. The TFF, along with Fifa and Uefa, strictly prohibits all match officials, players, and coaches from engaging in any betting activities. The TFF revealed that these individuals had held positions within clubs in Turkey's top two divisions over the last five years. Out of those investigated, 147 were found guilty of breaching the betting rules and will not be able to perform their duties during the suspension. For the remaining 301 cases, the TFF concluded that there was not enough evidence to warrant disciplinary action. This latest crackdown on betting irregularities follows a significant investigation last year, which resulted in bans for 149 referees and 1,204 players. Turkish football authorities are clearly determined to eradicate any form of betting misconduct, ensuring that the sport remains fair and transparent for all.
