After a wait of over two weeks, Marink Reedijk is finally set to lead Hibernian into battle this Saturday against Dundee United at Tannadice.
The 35-year-old Dutchman felt an immediate connection to Hibs following a marathon seven-hour meeting with the club's board in London. It was during this extensive discussion that Reedijk became convinced that Easter Road was the right fit for him.
Reedijk recently joined the squad for a warm weather training camp in Spain, and he described his introduction to the club as a whirlwind of intensity. "There’s a lot to do and discover, but it’s been really good," he shared, highlighting the importance of getting to know the players and staff.
"We had a rollercoaster journey from our first Zoom call to meeting with the board just days later. Those conversations were intense and very productive, covering everything from my football philosophy to the club’s vision."
The new man in charge is well aware of the challenges ahead as Hibs currently sit 10th in the Premiership. Reedijk's goal is clear: "I want to win as many matches as possible. I despise losing, even if it’s just a game of Monopoly with my five-year-old cousin!"
But Reedijk knows that success is about more than just results. "Building a strong collective identity is crucial. We need to become a family, ensuring everyone feels involved and embodies the club’s identity on and off the pitch."
Arriving in Edinburgh after leaving Beveren, where he led the team to promotion, Reedijk is eager to embrace the opportunities Scottish football presents. "There’s so much passion and tradition in this league. It’s not easy; anyone can win on any given day, which makes it an exciting challenge for personal growth as well."
As Reedijk prepares for his managerial debut, the expectations are high, but so is his enthusiasm for what lies ahead.
