Michael Carrick is feeling the sting of missed glory. The Manchester United manager reflected on how receiving a winner’s medal retrospectively wouldn’t replace the emotional high of winning, particularly after his side lost the 2011-12 title to Manchester City, thanks to Sergio Agüero’s last-minute heroics.
Carrick, who witnessed firsthand the celebration of City’s success amid the financial rule breaches that have now been confirmed, shared, "The emotion, the feeling about winning, a lot of it is in the moment. Once that’s done, there’s no getting that back. The feeling we all crave is coming out on top."
As the fallout continues, Carrick is left waiting for clarity. “It’s affected me personally in different ways,” he admitted, emphasizing the need for resolution. He believes the sooner the situation is addressed, the better it will be for everyone involved.
Liverpool's manager, Andoni Iraola, echoed Carrick's sentiments, urging for a swift conclusion to the City saga. “Uncertainty is not good for anyone involved,” he said, underscoring the importance of patience while the process unfolds.
Iraola focused on his own team, emphasizing, “We have to be the best club we can be. The challenge of the game is so high that I don’t think players think too much outside of this.” It’s all about keeping their eyes on the pitch.
Vincent Kompany, the former City captain, expressed pride in his achievements with the club despite the current controversies. The Bayern Munich manager, who enjoyed a trophy-laden spell at City, remarked, “I’ve loved all of the years I played for the club – that’s something I’m really proud of.”
Kompany, who joined City just as the club transformed under new ownership, pointed out that players aren’t involved in off-field issues. Now as a coach, he’s focused on preparing for Bayern’s next matches.
Arsenal’s Mikel Arteta, another former City assistant, maintained that the Premier League remains the best despite the ongoing turmoil. He stressed the importance of respecting the current processes while emphasizing that the league’s reputation can only be judged after resolutions are made.
“100%,” Arteta affirmed when asked if he believed in the league’s status. He stated, “It’s an ongoing process that is not resolved. I’m not prepared to make any comments.”
Meanwhile, Roberto De Zerbi is not letting the Manchester City verdict distract him from his own challenges at Brighton, especially with Spurs struggling at the bottom of the table. Reflecting on his past experiences with controversy in Serie A, he simply stated, “I don’t have time to dwell on it.”
As the Premier League grapples with the implications of City’s guilty verdict, managers across the board are focused on their own journeys while awaiting clarity on the situation.
