Lisandro Martinez Issues Apology After Controversial Comments
Lisandro Martinez has found himself in hot water after making some controversial comments about Manchester United's leadership. Following the team's loss to Atletico Madrid in the Champions League, the defender expressed his frustration, suggesting that head coach Michael Carrick was left with an inadequately prepared squad. After discussions with club officials, Martinez took to social media to clarify his stance. "Today I met with the club's leadership and the manager," he wrote. "It was a very positive conversation, where we were able to exchange views and speak openly about what happened after Tuesday's game." Emphasizing his passion for the game, Martinez admitted that the defeat led him to speak out at an inappropriate time. "The frustration of the defeat led me to express how I felt at a time and place that perhaps were not the right ones, and for that I want to apologise," he said. In addition to the apology, reports indicate that Martinez has been fined for his outburst. Meanwhile, Carrick is set to address the media ahead of the weekend's crucial clash against Leeds United. The team is struggling this season, sitting 13th in the Premier League with just two wins in nine matches. Martinez had previously called for more investment in the squad and improvement from technical director Jason Wilcox. He later acknowledged that his comments stemmed from a place of anger and frustration, stressing his belief in his teammates and the club's management. Former United captain Roy Keane weighed in on the situation, branding it a "bit of a circus" at Old Trafford. In his follow-up statement, Martinez recognized that his words did not contribute positively to the club's unity. He expressed confidence in everyone at United working tirelessly to achieve the club's goals. As for his playing future, Martinez's contract runs out next summer, although the club has the option to extend it for another year. While the matter of his comments seems to be settled, uncertainty remains over whether United will activate that extension.
