Maria Boswell, the captain of Ipswich Town Women, is confident that her team is on an "inevitable" path to the Women's Super League. Having joined the club's academy back in 2019, Boswell was appointed captain at just 20 years old in 2023.
After finishing ninth in WSL2 last season, Ipswich had previously climbed up to the second tier in 2025 from the fourth tier just two years earlier. Now, under the guidance of former player David Wright, who took over in April, the Tractor Girls sit in third place after their first five matches of the 2026-27 season.
"I truly believe there’s no limit to what we can achieve. I see promotion to the WSL as inevitable," Boswell shared in an interview with BBC Radio Suffolk.
She expressed her faith in the club’s direction, stating, "With the ownership's ambition and the investments made, promotion is the only outcome I foresee. Whether it happens this year or in five years, I know this club belongs at that level, and I hope to be part of it when it does."
The season kicked off with draws against Nottingham Forest and Southampton, but Ipswich quickly turned things around, securing wins against Leicester City, Wolverhampton Wanderers, and Sheffield United.
Looking ahead, they will face second-placed Sunderland at Colchester Community Stadium this Sunday. Boswell emphasized the quality of the new signings, saying, "We have brought in some fantastic players. At the end of pre-season, we realized there was no reason not to aim for promotion."
She added, "While it's essential to keep that goal in mind, we mustn't let it overshadow our daily work. Each training session is about putting in the effort, and when we take to the pitch on Sundays, we focus on delivering performances that secure the three points. We're doing well so far, but we know we can't take our strong start for granted."
