Glasner Remains Optimistic Ahead of Crucial Clash with Ipswich
Nottingham Forest finds themselves in a tough spot, having lost five of their first eight games across all competitions. Yet, manager Oliver Glasner is keeping his chin up, insisting that his team has been unlucky and deserves better results. As they gear up to face Ipswich Town on Friday, Forest is looking to bounce back from three consecutive defeats that have left them teetering in the Premier League's relegation zone. This isn't the position Glasner envisioned when he took the reins after his departure from Crystal Palace during the summer. The team has been so close to securing points, missing crucial chances in matches against Palace and narrowly falling to the reigning champions, Arsenal, last Sunday. While the results haven't come, there's a shared belief within the squad that progress is on the horizon, but they need to start translating that into tangible outcomes. Forest's recent struggles have been evident; they have yet to score a goal at home this season. Glasner, however, remains optimistic, expressing confidence in his methods and the players' abilities. He has a clear vision for the club's future, having achieved significant success at Palace, and is eager to replicate that at Forest. The 52-year-old has noted that owner Evangelos Marinakis shares his ambition, which fuels his drive to succeed. Glasner isn’t one to shy away from the tough realities, acknowledging that he’s not a magician and has already discussed the importance of avoiding slow starts. His own history shows he faced similar challenges at Palace, where it took time to find his footing. Now, he's focused on building a consistent lineup, with players like Neco Williams, Matz Sels, and Dan Ndoye becoming regular starters. Some squad members, such as club captain Ryan Yates and Ibrahim Sangare, have seen limited playtime, but Glasner is keen on fostering a cohesive unit ready for the challenges ahead. Defender Murillo echoed Glasner's sentiments, stating, "We have a good manager and are still getting used to his ideas. We are improving and getting closer to our best." Despite their struggles, Forest's attacking intent is evident; they have registered the third-highest number of shots in the Premier League this season. However, their conversion rate is a stark reminder of their current woes, as they sit bottom of the league in that department. Glasner pointed out the significance of seizing limited opportunities when facing top teams, highlighting the need for clinical finishing. After investing £50m in striker Rory Delap, who has already shown promise, it’s clear the club is looking to improve their fortunes. Staying positive is essential during this challenging time, and Glasner believes in the character of his players. "We are the only ones who can change it," he stated firmly. Emphasizing the need for unity, he encouraged his team to support one another and maintain a positive outlook, confident that they will eventually turn things around.
