FA Boosts Hospitality Budget for Council Members Amid Ticket Price Protests
The Football Association has significantly upped its spending on hospitality and complimentary tickets for FA Council members, with a 25% increase reported for the most recent season. Latest financial statements reveal that expenditure soared from £452,300 in 2024-25 to an eye-watering £564,400 for 2025-26. This surge comes at a time when football fans are increasingly vocal about ticket prices, with protests erupting across the country. Many supporters have felt the pinch due to the ongoing cost-of-living crisis, while clubs like Liverpool have scrapped plans for price hikes after facing backlash from their loyal fanbase. The FA Council comprises over 120 members, including prominent figures such as EFL chairman Rick Parry and PFA chief Maheta Molango, as well as top executives from the Premier League. These influential individuals are enjoying perks that have come under scrutiny. Members of the FA Council can attend key England matches and FA Cup fixtures at Wembley, bringing a guest along at no cost. They also enjoy complimentary meals and drinks, seated in premium areas. An FA spokesperson explained, “FA Council members are invited as our guests to the England matches and FA competitions that we host. This hospitality has been enhanced over the past year to match the standards set by clubs and other stakeholders.” However, the financial implications of these benefits are likely to grow. The Fellowship of Council, an honorary membership program initiated in 2017, allows those who have served for nine years or longer to continue receiving free tickets and hospitality after their tenure ends. FA company secretary Richard McDermott noted that as this fellowship expands, so too will the related costs, prompting a need for adjustments to the benefits by 2027. Additionally, costs related to hosting FA Council meetings have nearly doubled, climbing from £18,600 to £33,200, primarily due to rising hospitality expenses. The FA's growing hospitality budget raises questions about priorities in a time when many fans are struggling to afford the sport they love.
