Dionisi's Future in Balance as Watford Sticks with Coach
Watford's head coach Alessio Dionisi is poised to remain at the helm for Saturday's Championship clash with Charlton Athletic, according to reports from BBC Three Counties Radio. The Hornets suffered a heavy 5-1 defeat against Cardiff on Tuesday, marking their fourth consecutive loss in the league. With nine goals conceded in just two matches, questions about Dionisi’s future were inevitable after the dismal outing. "I don’t appreciate this question because it’s impossible for me to answer," Dionisi responded to the media. "I focus on getting the team ready for the pitch and during training—discussions about my future aren’t in my control." Following this latest setback, Watford finds itself in the relegation zone. Yet, instead of making a managerial change, the club has opted to stick with Dionisi, as confirmed by BBC 3CR sports editor Geoff Doyle. "Watford has decided to back Alessio Dionisi, which is surprising given the poor performances we witnessed against Cardiff and Burnley, where they lost 4-0," Doyle noted. "It looked like he might be on the way out, but the club seems determined to break away from the cycle of frequent managerial changes." Watford's season started on a positive note, remaining unbeaten in their first three matches, which included a victory against Southampton. However, they've only managed to secure one win since then, which came against the struggling Preston. Dionisi, who took over the reins in June, is the club's twelfth permanent manager since the end of the 2020-21 season. Doyle added, "Will this decision make the fans happy? Probably not. There’s a growing discontent directed at owner Gino Pozzo regarding how the club is being managed." Stay tuned for more updates and insights on Watford by visiting BBC Sounds.
