Celtic Claims Glory in Thrilling Tennent's Sixes Showdown

Celtic emerged victorious with a dramatic 5-4 win against Rangers, clinching the Tennent's Sixes trophy after its long-awaited return to Glasgow. This marked a fresh chapter for the tournament, which had been absent for 33 years, as Celtic dethroned Partick Thistle, the last holders since 1993.
The six-a-side action unfolded on a unique pitch set over the ice rink at Braehead Arena, creating an unexpectedly brisk atmosphere. Usually home to the Glasgow Clan ice hockey team, the arena transformed into a makeshift football venue for a weekend of nostalgia.
It was quite the sight to see players navigating through the saloon-style doors during substitutions, or dodging stray balls from a bench that seemed to sit right on the ice.
In a surprising twist, the weekend featured only one notable incident of on-pitch drama. Frazer Wright’s aggressive tackle on Morgaro Gomis during the St Johnstone vs. Dundee United match led to a red card, reminiscent of a heated Sunday league clash—until the final match, that is.
One of the standout features of the tournament was the unique penalty format, reminiscent of American football. Players had just 10 seconds, starting from the halfway line, to make their attempt at goal, leading to a mix of successes and failures.
Rangers delivered an impressive performance on Saturday, demolishing Celtic 7-1 with Barry Ferguson at the helm. Martyn Waghorn's five goals propelled Rangers to victory, making it three derby wins in a row for the Ibrox side if you include previous encounters in the Scottish Premiership and League Cup.
Meanwhile, both United and Hearts celebrated derby victories of their own. Yet, it was Celtic who had the last laugh in the tournament, with Gary Hooper netting the decisive goal in the final. This marked the first time Rangers had found themselves trailing throughout the entire competition.
