Bloom Sets High Expectations for Hearts' Title Challenge by 2035
Tony Bloom is not shy about his expectations for Hearts. The Brighton chairman would be "really disappointed" if the club doesn’t secure the Scottish Premiership title by 2035. Last summer, Bloom took a significant step by acquiring a 29% stake in the Edinburgh side, pledging to "disrupt the pattern of domination which has been in place for far too long." He’s aiming for a championship win within the next decade. Hearts came heartbreakingly close to their first title since 1960 last season, leading the league for an impressive 250 days before a last-minute defeat at Celtic Park dashed their hopes. "The way it ended was exceptionally disappointing for the club and for me as well," Bloom told Sky Sports. "But we have to accept what happened, even if we’re not happy about it." For years, Celtic and Rangers have monopolized the title, with Aberdeen being the last team to break their stronghold in 1985. Yet, Bloom believes that Hearts are primed to challenge this Old Firm dominance. "I’d be really disappointed if Hearts haven't won the Scottish Premiership within 10 years," he stated, reaffirming his commitment to the club’s ambitions. In the wake of finishing just two points behind Celtic last May, Tynecastle has seen a significant shake-up. Head coach Derek McInnes has moved to Rangers, and key players like captain Lawrence Shankland and midfielder Cammy Devlin have also departed. With Wouter Vrancken now at the helm, Hearts are maintaining an impressive home unbeaten streak that stretches over a year and currently sit third in the league behind Celtic and Rangers. "We’ve started reasonably well, so we have to remain hopeful and optimistic for the season to come," Bloom added as Hearts gear up to face Celtic on Sunday. “Adjusting was tough with the new head coach coming in just before pre-season, but in football, you have to recover quickly. I believe we have done that. We’ve brought in many new players, and there's plenty for Hearts fans to be excited about this season.”
